Thomas W. Carroll discusses why prioritizing Catholic Identity leads Catholic Schools to thrive.

EP011: Thomas W. Carroll

In this podcast episode, Thomas W. Carroll, Superintendent of Schools in the Archdiocese of Boston, shares with Scot how he got involved with Catholic schools, key areas that are needed to “put the Catholic back in Catholic schools” and discusses his newest project, Lumen Verum Academy

Thomas’s tips for putting the Catholic back in Catholic schools:

  • Catholic school administrators must be Catholic mission-focused and drive quality
  • Schools must prioritize the spiritual formation of children, including helping students get to know young priests, seminarians and religious
  • Male teachers, especially in younger grades, are important to show all students that church should not be viewed as a feminine pastime
  • Catholic Schools must reject the status quo of declines in enrollment and curriculum.  Instead, they should make the Catholic Faith central. This will lead to growth.
